Ways to Treat a Candidiasis Fungal Infection

Candidiasis is an infection caused by a group of microscopic fungi or yeast. There are more than 20 species of Candida, which live on all surfaces of our bodies. When they become too abundant they can cause infections, usually in warm and moist areas. These infections include, diaper rash and vaginal yeast infections; and they occur more often in people with immune systems that are not at full strength.

This fungus causes patches of red and cream colored lesions on moist areas of the mouth. The sores can be tender and especially painful when aggravated; thus making chewing and swallowing difficult. Also the taste buds may be compromised, giving foods a different taste or less flavor. This means a person with an outbreak has to be diligent in making sure he takes in enough solid food and liquids.

The infection is most common in two extreme age groups, the very young and the elderly. It can also occur in individuals whose immune systems are compromised because of an illness. Patients receiving antibiotics are more susceptible because the medication can eliminate some of the fungus-fighting bacteria normally found in the mouth.

The infections can originate as a result of various conditions, so the treatment involves finding the origins and proceeding accordingly. In the following paragraphs are ways to treat a candidiasis fungal infection when you have a good idea of the cause.
